Meet our Team

Emily holds a BA in Japanese from SOAS, University of London, and a PGCE from the University of Buckingham. Before becoming a primary teacher in the UK, she spent several years teaching English in Malaysia and Vietnam.

Since joining STEP Academy Trust in 2018, Emily has worked across teacher development, school improvement and curriculum leadership. As Senior Lead for Teacher Development, she leads the Early Career Teacher Programme (ECTP) and supports the Institute's Appropriate Body services, NPQ provision and curriculum development work.

Emily has taught predominantly in Upper Key Stage 2, including Year 6, and previously led English across five academies in East Sussex. She has a particular interest in English education and undertook research into the effective teaching of spelling.

Her professional interests include coaching and mentoring, systems leadership and effective teacher development. She is particularly interested in how professional development influences teacher beliefs, behaviours and outcomes, leading to sustained improvements in classroom practice. Emily has completed NPQs in Leading Teaching, Leading Literacy and Senior Leadership, and is currently studying for an MA in Educational Leadership.
