Neil holds a BA in Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status and an MA in Educational Leadership from Coventry University. Having worked as a lead teacher and deputy headteacher, he is an experienced education leader and teacher educator whose work spans school leadership, curriculum and instructional design, teacher development and educational programme delivery 

At the STEP Institute of Education, Neil has led evidence-informed curriculum development across six subjects for 19 schools, designing implementation cycles, professional learning materials and guidance to support effective teaching and consistent curriculum implementation. As Interim ECF Lead, he led operational delivery across a Teaching School Hub, coordinating schools, mentors, induction tutors and delivery partners and facilitating professional learning for early career teachers and school leaders.

He is a published contributor to two researchED books for teachers. In The researchED Guide to the Curriculum, his chapter, “Curriculum Coherence: How Best to Do It?”, explores how careful sequencing and meaningful connections between curriculum content help pupils develop secure, connected knowledge. His chapter in The researchED Guide to Primary Literacy examines the teaching and learning of handwriting, including why it is difficult to master and how evidence can inform effective classroom instruction and practice.

Alongside his principal roles, he served as an External Expert in English for the Australian Education Research Organisation and is currently an English Curriculum Subject Expert for Oak National Academy. He has supported within AIConfident’s education team, facilitating professional learning on responsible AI for educators. He also writes for Third Space Learning on curriculum, mathematics teaching and intelligent tutoring systems. Across these roles, his focus remains on translating research and emerging technology into better curriculum, teaching and professional learning.
